Cosa hanno in comune film come Arancia Meccanica, La mia Africa, Marie Antoinette e Grand Budapest Hotel? Senza dubbio si tratta di pellicole entrate (più o meno di recente) di diritto nella storia del cinema; quattro film di grande successo, che probabilmente molti di voi avranno visto e amato. Il filo conduttore tra questi iconici film ha un nome: Milena Canonero.
La pluripremiata costumista italiana, adottata dagli Stati Uniti, ha contribuito, grazie a un uso sofisticato e al tempo stesso pop, dei costumi cinematografici, a rendere indimenticabili i protagonisti di moltissimi film. Milena Canonero grew up in Genoa. She studied design and costume in Genoa before moving to England to finish her studies. Milena's film career started with Stanley Kubrick, designing the costumes for three of his films: Clockwork Orange (), Barry Lyndon (), winning her first of her four academy awards, and The Shining (). Milena has worked with Alan Parker, Midnight Express (), Hugh Hudson, Chariots of Fire () her second Oscar. Francis F. Coppola, Cotton Club (), Godfather III (), Sydney Pollock, Out of Africa (), Louis Malle, Damage (), Warren Beatty, Dick Tracy () and Bulworth () Julie Taymor, Titus () Roman Polanski, Carnage (), and the legendary director, Manoel De Oliveira, Belle Toujours (), Sofia Coppola, Marie Antoinette () brought her third Oscar. She has also production designed Barbet Schroeder's Single White Female () and Leonardo Guerra Seragnoli's Last Summer and designed costumes for opera productions at La Scala, The Vienna opera House, The Metropolitan Opera and the Garnier Opera de Paris. BIOGRAFIA DI MILENA CANONERO
Nata a Torino il primo gennaio , studia arte e storia del costume a Genova, prima di trasferirsi a Londraa metà anni Sessanta. Lì inizia a lavorare in varie produzioni teatrali.Conosce Stanley Kubrick durante una visita sul set di Odissea nello spazio e il regista le affida i costumi del suo film successivo, Arancia Meccanica, che è anche il suo primo lavoro per il cinema. Kubrick la richiama poi per Barry Lyndon () – per cui vince il primo Oscar – e per Shining (). Il regista la vorrebbe anche per Eyes Wide Shut, ma Canonero è impegnata con altri film ed è costretta a rinunciare.
Nel arriva la seconda statuetta per Momenti di gloria di Hugh Hudson e la terza nel per Marie-Antoinette. Viene candidata anche per La mia Africa, Tucker, Dick Tracy, Titus e L'intrigo della collana.
Nel espande la sua esperienza in televisione collaborando con Michael Mann nella serie Miami Vice.
Kubrick: Designing Worlds
Over the span of fifty years, the film-director Stanley Kubrick created films that defied genres, shocked the public, and challenged conceptions of what cinema might be. Renowned for his meticulous attention to detail, Kubrick worked closely with many designers throughout his career to construct a series of unique cinematic worlds, from the brutalist dystopia of A Clockwork Orange to the futuristic space-station of A Space Odyssey.
This two-day symposium will explore the legacy of Stanley Kubrick’s films and their impact on design. Drawing on the Stanley Kubrick exhibition at the Design Museum and the Stanley Kubrick Archive held at the Archives and Special Collections Centre, UAL, this symposium aims to illuminate discussions around the practices that underpin film production, extending the range of engaged disciplines beyond the screen such as costume design and documentary film-making.
Participants will also have access to the Design Museum’s current exhibition Stanley Kubrick: The Exhibition as a part of the symposium.
