Despite vibrant performances from a uniformly talented cast, the show drags, especially in the first act when I found myself eyeing my watch like a kid dying for the bell to ring. And the music, by Fey's husband, Jeff Richmond, is repetitive and not particularly memorable. Director-choreographer Casey Nicholaw wrings everything he can from his cast, most notably from Barrett Wilbert Weed and Grey Henson, as the outcasts who take Cady under their wing. Taylor Louderman's Regina George, leader of the alpha pack known as The Plastics, shrewdly calculates every move as the cruel queen bee. And her partners in crime, Ashley Park as the eager-to-please Gretchen and Kate Rockwell as the dim Karen, are fun to watch as they flounce about in Gregg Barnes' over-the-top costumes.
Fans of the original movie should be reassured that nothing important has been purged from the story. Cady falls for Regina's ex-boyfriend, Aaron (a very clean-cut Kyle Selig), which causes her former friend Regina and her brat pack to come after her with claws bared.

Truth be told, the biggest laughs in Fey&#;s book for &#;Mean Girls&#; are lifted directly from her screenplay about a pretty, vapid, backstabbing group of teenage girls, a.k.a. the Plastics, who rule North Shore High. Since those laugh lines of callous reverse feminism were hilarious the first time around, they remain LOL effective on stage in the musical version of &#;Mean Girls,&#; which opened Sunday at the August Wilson Theatre.

The musical adaptation of Mean Girls celebrated its official opening night at Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre April 8. The show marks the Broadway debut of book writer Tina Fey, who penned and appeared in the comedy of the same name. The musical also features a score by composer Jeff Richmond (Fey’s husband and frequent collaborator) and lyricist Nell Benjamin.
Casey Nicholaw directs the long-aborning project, which received its world premiere last fall at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C.
Leading the cast is Erika Henningsen (Les Misérables) as high school fresh face Cady Heron (played on screen by Lindsay Lohan). Bringing to life the Plastics, the vicious clique Heron infiltrates, are Taylor Louderman(Kinky Boots) as queen bee Regina George, Ashley Park (Sunday in the Park with George) as Gretchen Wieners, and Kate Rockwell (Rock of Ages) as Karen Smith.
