Alexander III of Russia
Alexander Alexandrovich Romanov (Alexander III, 10 March , Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire — 1 November , Maley Palace, Livadia, Taurida Governorate, Russian Empire) was the Emperor of Russia from 13 March [O.S. 1 March] until his death on 1 November [O.S. 20 October] He reversed some of the liberal laws made by his father, Alexander II and promoted the Russian language. Unlike many Tsars, he kept Russia out of wars. Alexander III had six children. His son, Nicholas II of Russia became the next and last Tsar.

Alexander III was tutored by Constantine Petrovich Pobedonostsev who believed in an authoritarian approach to ruling that any opposition needed to be harshly dealt ruthlessly stamped out. Pobedonostsev was also anti-Semitic and influenced his pupil.
