Die in Russland geborene, weltbekannte Pianistin Lilya Zilberstein begann im Alter von fünf Jahren mit dem Klavierspiel. In den folgenden zwölf Jahren studierte sie in Moskau bei Ada Traub an der Gnessin-Spezialmusikschule und später bei Alexander Satz am Moskauer Gnessin Institut, bei dem sie ihr Konzertexamen absolvierte. hatte sie schon den ersten Preis bei dem Wettbewerb der Russischen Föderation und einen Preis bei der „All-Union’s Competition“ in Riga erhalten.
Der internationale Durchbruch gelang ihr mit dem Gewinn des Busoni-Wettbewerbs in Bozen. Der Sieg war eine Sensation, erst fünf Jahre später wurde überhaupt wieder ein erster Preis vergeben. Seitdem spielt Lilya Zilberstein weltweit mit den berühmtesten Orchestern, in den wichtigsten Konzerthallen und bei den renommiertesten Festivals.

Brahms' most popular works are not known to be his own: the "Hungarian Dances". That is why he also insisted that they appear without an opus number and only with the note "set by J.B.". Lilya Zilberstein and her son Anton Gerzenberg, who won the Concours Géza Anda in , present all 21 dances together – with the most famous at the end. The "Paganini Variations" published by Brahms as "Studies for Pianoforte" find a counterpart in a brilliant cycle of variations by the Viennese etude master Carl Czerny.

Don�t expect a mind-blowing version of the concerto. It�s one of the drawbacks of the piece that, because it�s so well-known, pianists feel they must at all costs �say something new�. Zilberstein and Järvi resist that temptation, and, hey presto, the concerto does come up sounding fresh and unmannered. There is probably room for greater characterisation of the music here and there, most of all in the finale, where the sense of bravura is closest to the surface. But generally, Zilberstein gives an honest account of the piece, with a magically expressive restraint in the lovely slow movement. Järvi draws very fine playing from the Gothenburg Orchestra, and most of the significant details
