Who was Tutankhamun?

How did Tutankhamun become Pharaoh?

Pharaohs were the kings of Ancient Egypt. They ruled over the land, collected taxes from the people, enforced the law and led the Egyptian army against invaders.

Tutankhamun, or King Tut as he is also known, was the last of his dynasty of pharaohs.

He ruled as a boy only for a short time. He is most famous because his tomb was discovered almost intact and full of treasures in .

Tutankhamun became pharaoh after the death of his father Akhenaten. Some people liked how Akhenaten ruled but others didn't. He outlawed all of the gods except for one called Aten.

The people were very unhappy with this change and, after Akhenaten's death, destroyed many of his statues and monuments.

Tutankhamun: History, Accomplishments and Facts

King Tutankhamun (c. BCE &#; c. BCE)

Ancient Egypt’s famous boy-king Tutankhamun, also known as Tutankhamen, was a pharaoh from the 18th dynasty of Egypt. Commonly known today as “King Tut”, Tutankhamun was a young 8/9-year-old boy who inherited the throne from his father, the &#;heretic Pharaoh&#; Akhenaten (Akhenaton) in the year c. BCE.

Tutankhamun would go on to have an unremarkable reign for 10 or so years. All throughout the course of his reign, King Tut immersed himself in the daunting task of reversing all his father’s religious policies. Along with his trusted royal advisers,  Ay and Horemheb, Tutankhamun returned ancient Egypt to its polytheistic religious life.

However, the stigma attached to his father Akhenaten’s reign proved very difficult for the young king to shake off. Under bizarre circumstances, Tutankhamun’s life was cut short in BCE. He was probably in his late teens when he died.

Birth of Tutankhamun

Because it is widely held that Tutankhamun inherited the throne around BCE, at the age of nine, we can say that he was born around BCE. Archaeological findings place him as the son of Pharaoh Akhenaten

King Tut: The Life & Afterlife of the Boy Pharaoh

Tutankhamun is one of the most famous people in history, but behind the shimmering golden mask and piles of ancient treasures is a surprisingly obscure man. There are glaring gaps in the historical record that deprive us of basic details of his life, but the details we do know paint a fascinating picture. King Tut’s life and afterlife are a remarkable story of one boy’s rise into glory, only to fall into oblivion again before a glorious resurrection thousands of years after his death.

King Tut: A Boy Who Would Be King

Tutankhamun’s origins are shrouded in mystery. He was born around BCE towards the end of what Egyptologists call the 18th Dynasty. He was probably the son of the infamous heretic Pharaoh Akhenaten who overthrew Egypt’s traditional religion in favor of the exclusive worship of the solar deity Aten. Tut’s birth name was Tutankhaten (Living Image of Aten) to honor his father’s god.

Tut’s mother is a point of debate. Akhenaten’s famous wife Nefertiti, a lesser wife named Kiya, or one of Akhenaten’s sisters have bee

Tutankhamen Biography

Born: c. B.C.E.
Died: c. B.C.E.

Egyptian king and pharaoh

Tutankhamen was the twelfth king of the eighteenth Egyptian dynasty (reigned &#x; B.C.E. ). Although his reign was relatively unimportant, Tutankhamen became the most famous of the pharaohs (Egyptian kings) when his treasure-filled tomb was discovered in the early twentieth century. The vast and untouched contents of his tomb offered historians great insight into the ancient Egyptian culture.

Early life

Little is known of Tutankhamen&#x;s childhood; even the identity of his parents remains a mystery. Historian believe Tutankhamen was the son of either Amenophis III or Akhenaten. His mother was probably one of the king&#x;s many wives, most likely Kiya, a wife of Akhenaten who was often referred to as the &#x;Greatly Beloved Wife.&#x;

Tutankhamen was only a child when he became king, for although he reigned eight full years, examination of his body has shown that he was little more than eighteen years old at the time of his death. He may have owed his rise to king to his marriage to Ankhnesamun, the third daughter of the fourteenth century Egyptian rulers, Ikhnaton a
