Renowned outsider artist Reverend Albert Wagner is outrageous and unforgettable. Miraculously transformed by religion at age 50, Albert was called by God to paint and used this gift to renounce a life of sin and inspire others. Still, controversy surrounds the Reverend’s work, which at times provokes unexpected racial tension. Judge for yourselfthis is ONE BAD CAT.
ONE BAD CAT is about the transformative role art plays in the tumultuous life of Reverend Wagner who has been a lightening rod for controversy his entire life. Racism, ego and lust led him to the brink of ruin. Miraculously, he was inspired by God to paint, “God and art saved the Reverend Albert.”

As the twentieth century was drawing to a close, a small group of Finnish/Americans began looking forward as they initiated discussions of an admirable way to permanently celebrate Finnish heritage in North America. Eventually a committee was formed for that specific purpose. It was unanimously decided that a memorable sculptural monument should be designed and built of substantial materials for location in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. Fairport, like many Great Lakes towns, provided home and opportunity for first and each following generation of Finnish/Americans. Veterans Memorial Park in Fairport was chosen as a proper and permanent site for the monument; and, it is only two blocks from the Finnish Heritage Museum.
The Finnish Monument Committee thoroughly investigated potential costs involved with such an ambitious project, ultimately arriving at a projected goal. Next, a plan of action was determined that required no public funding but did include private donations, business gifts, and in-kind services. A time schedule was established and the project began. Gene Kangas was an artist of extraordinary breadth and vision, whose work transcended traditional boundaries and redefined what it meant to create. Born in Painesville, Ohio, in , Kangas grew up with a deep connection to the natural and industrial landscapes of the Midwest—an influence that permeated his art throughout his career. Best known for his monumental steel sculptures, Kangas created dynamic, site-specific works that combined the raw power of industrial materials with the subtleties of human emotion. His works, such as Snow Fence at Case Western Reserve University and the Hart Crane Memorial in Cleveland, continue to stand as iconic testaments to his ability to marry material and meaning, creating environments that invite reflection, interaction, and connection.
Kangas’s art career began after earning degrees from Miami University and Bowling Green State University, followed by teaching appointments at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
