Legend to celebrate a great year with family and friends in Toronto

By Stacey Marie Robinson

It&#;s been a busy year for the mighty Baron. Since the beginning of , he&#;s been on the road every weekend, traveling, performing for sold-out crowds, and making sure his fans are musically fulfilled as he keeps the vibes going well into the third decade of his career.

&#;It&#;s been very hectic,&#; said Baron, also known as Timothy Watkins, &#;since the year start, I&#;m on the street.&#;

No matter where he goes, he is greeted with warmth, and hundreds of fans who look forward to hearing his classics, and anticipate his new releases. This New Year&#;s Eve, he will perform a full hour show in Toronto at the Lion Gate Lounge ( Kennedy at Progress) backed by Ossie Gurley & De Relatives.

He grew up in Bamboo Village, La Romain, South Trinidad, but Baron is no stranger to Toronto, Canada. He spent three years living in Toronto, and is looking forward to seeing his many friends, family &#; including his son Richie &#; and his loyal fans when he returns at the end of the month.

Fans can look forward to hearing favourites at the Baron New Year&#;s Eve Ball like &#;This Melody

Baron has easily one of the most recognisable voices in calypso music.

Ever since his debut in , the man born Timothy Watkins has endeared himself to fans of the genre with his signature vocal runs and sugar sweet harmonies. Women adored him. Men wanted to be him. And so the sweet soca man enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of the genre during the late 70s into the early 80s with timeless hits like: “Doh Rock It So”, “Somebody” and “This Melody Sweet”.

Those still unsure of the longevity of Baron’s music have to look no further than the remake by reigning Groovy Soca Monarch Swappi (Marvin Davis) of his classic “Feeling It”. Swappi’s cover of a song released over three decades ago is easily one of the forerunners for Carnival

Baron’s parang soca catalogue further catapults his legacy beyond the reach of his calypso contemporaries. As long as there is a place called Trinidad and Tobago “Spanish Woman”, “Come Go” and “Christmas Again” will blare from speaker boxes or whatever futuristic evolution of music playback is commonplace.

Surprisingly Baron was very humble when presented with his enviable list of musical achievements by Kitcharee on Friday afternoon. Graceful as ever

FOR as long as Trinidad and Tobago celebrates Christmas, the name Baron will live on.

Known for his velvety voice and timeless holiday classics, the veteran calypsonian, born Timothy Watkins, is more than a musician; he’s an institution, embodying the spirit of island Yuletide music.

Now, at 77, Baron is preparing to gift T&T another unforgettable experience with his Infinity concert, this Sunday, at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s. The showcase will feature all the stars of Christmas past and present.

For Baron, the title Infinity holds a deeply personal significance. His music has been his life’s work, a passion that’s spanned generations.

“Infinity means everlasting music, my music will live on and on even when I am not here anymore,” he said through a playful smile. “But that’s a long time from now.”

On Sunday, an impressive roster of Christmas entertainers will pay tribute to Baron’s immense contribution to the art form. It’s an honour the iconic performer receives with humility, noting that this concert will only span a brief chapter in a much longer story.

“At 77, my concert will speak to just a little of my journey,” he explained. “If you get half of my journey, we coul
