Aindra Prabhu, will undoubtedly go down in both Iskcon and Vaishnava history as a very unique saint.

Although He was born in the USA in , as Edward Striker, He entirely cast off this identity, gradually becoming more and more aware of his inner identity as an eternal loving servant of Radha and Krishna. He shed all material designations and remained loyal to Iskcon, being established by his Guru, Srila Prabhupada.

Most people&#;s journey in Bhakti is gradual as they go through their life with various oscillations, however, with Aindra it appears to never stagnate or slow down. On the contrary he seemed to exponentially get deeper with each year.

As the author describes in the Biography during the preface, that Aindra displayed many various characteristics within his nature that often seemed contradictory. He was sometimes very shy and at other times very bold. He was sometimes very innocent like a child and at other times very assertive on principles of spiritual practice. He could act like a friend, but then suddenly advise you like a father and sometimes even get heavy like a Guru. A personality like Aindra Prabhu cannot be described in one book. Meditative and explosive, serious and comic, shy and outrageous, simple and complex, a dedicated and expert musician, scholar, pujari, kirtaniyah, teacher, and disciple, Aindra was a composite of diverse, even contradictory qualities, and often misunderstood. But he was always intense. And not merely different, but unique, seeming to be not of this world or bound by it. Whatever one’s view is of Aindra’s ideas, his potency can’t be denied, and even today he remains a leader on the front line of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s sankirtana movement, his kirtans touching hearts and transforming lives around the world, continuing to attract people to and support them in Krsna consciousness.

Aindra Prabhu was born in Virginia, U.S.A in in an artistic family. His father played bluegrass music, his mother the harp, his brother the bass, and he himself took to the guitar—as well as other instruments and crafts. He happened to meet the devotees in Washington D. C. in the summer of while they were out on street sankirtana. Aindra Prabhu eagerly joined in, followed them back to the temple, and moved in more or less right away. A few months later, on Nityananda Trayodasi, he was initiated into the Gaudiya-sampradaya and given the name Aindra Dasa by Srila Prabhupada.

 

 

In retrospect, one can easily conclude that Aindra Prabhu was steadiness personified. He first began Deity service in Washington D. C. in , continued that service on the Radha-Damodara Traveling Sankirtana Party, then in New York City until , and since then in Vrindavan. Indeed, he left his body while preparing to cook for his Deities in July , and he surrendered his last breat
